The next hangar was the "Conservation in action" display where aircraft are restored for display in the museum. It was interesting seeing the work being done to restore Shackleton MR3 XF708. The wings outside of the inner engines had been removed as had the tail and rudder. Some areas of the fuselage were being taken right back to bare metal to treat corrosion.
Other aircraft being restored included Valiant B1 XD826 (fuselage/cockpit only), Pucara A-549 and a Heinkel He-162
The next hangar had the Battle of Britain display in the front half, and an odd mix of aircraft in the back. The battle of Britain Display included an Me-109 1190, a Spitfire 1a N3200 (G-CFGJ) and two Hurricanes. A mark 1 V7497 (G-HRLI) and a mark 2 Z2315
Also in this display was Cierva autogyro HM580
Behind the Battle of Britain display were a variety of planes including Meteor F8 WK991, Javelin FAW9 XH897, Hungarian Air Force MiG-21 501, Vampire T11 WZ590, Hunter F6 XE627 and Tornado GR4 ZA469
The next instalment will be the Air and Sea Hangar
