Donnington Aeropark, East Midlands Airport and Sywell Aerodrome

On the way from Newark to Northampton I had to pass East Midlands Airport.  Well, It would be rude not to see what was there wouldn't it!

Just to the north of the main runway is Donnington Aeropark.  There is a collection of aircraft here along with a café and some raised viewing mounds with picnic tables, but no shade. Amongst the aircraft on display are Canberra T17 WH740 (with Nimrod  R1 XW664 in the background),  Elan Argosy 101 G-BEOZ,  Vulcan B2 XM575, Sea King HC4 ZD477, Chipmunk T10 WP784, Sheriff SA-1 G-FRJB and Lynx HAS3 XZ721.

The airport mainly caters for holiday charters and freight traffic.  Budget airline Ryanair also flies here and one of their  Boeing 737 Max 8s EI-IGM took off while I was there.  It is a major hub for DHL and one of their Boeing 767 freighters had just landed. On the cargo ramp were Cargo Air Boeing 737 LZ-CGC and West Atlantic ATR-72 G-CLNK.

Two other arrivals in the short time I was here were Cessna 525 Citation D-CEUS and Jet2 Boeing 737 G-GDFP.

While in Northampton, I paid a quick visit to Sywell Aerodrome and the small museum there.  On the airfield were Luscombe 8 G-BRHX, two DH-82A Tiger Moths G-ANTE and G-ALIW, A smart Beech Bonanza G-KSHI and a Cessna O-1 Bird Dog G-VNAM  painted up as USAF 50-14781.

The tiny museum has Hunter F2 WN904 and Jetstream G-RAVL outside and a collection of memorabilia and some cockpit sections housed in an old nissen hut.
