Popham and Blackbushe

On a trip to visit some more family, we happened to pass two airfields, Popham and Blackbushe. Both have expanded greatly since I last visited them.

Apart from the usual Cessnas and Pipers, Popham had a few interesting planes including two stunning Luscombe 8s,  G-BUAO an 8A and G-BRDJ an 8F

One hanger in particular was packed full of vintage aircraft. There were two Austers, G-ARRX(VF512) an Auster 6A and G-AIZU a J1

Also two Piper Cubs, G-AMEN a PA-18C Super Cub and B-BCVB a PA-17 Cub Vagabond

And an immaculate Druine DR105A Ambassadeur

As a kid, I used to cycle to Blackbushe.  Then it was a small GA airfield with a few air taxi operators and a flying school.  Now the runway has been extended and it has a number of flying schools and executive charter companies based here.

On the visitors stand were Cessna 510 OM-OYS and Piaggio P-180 T7-DAT

Out on the field was this rather sorry looking Cessna 175A N9432B and a Cessna 182  Floatplane G-ESSL

I felt quite at home here as there were lots of Diamonds around including DA-40s G-OCCN and N799DS and DA-42 G-HAKA

The Cirrus SR20 series is also popular with SR22-GTS N220RJ and N147LK both here.

While I was here, Eurocopter EC135 G-WPDC popped in for a quick top up.
