This post is a mixed bag of photos from the last couple of weeks.
I went to the hills to check out the Square-tailed Kite nest from last year. A bird was on the nest, but there was no sign of the other one. Fingers crossed for another successful breeding event this year.
A couple of nice flowers there too, Twining Fringed Lily and one that I cannot identify even with my new plant book!![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgaNCoSpIIjPbI49l7YKyQkIxhs7Cc19isB3zUhAzGS-yJYMScHP8gHeyF5ExmeQG6nXG4svLXY27nyUGk8-ulKCtyki_U9Ph6MJRsV28C4UVmTH2YOz5ChUlqFygI2TG6zun-pJ0A413e3/s320/02+tfl.jpg)
Another day we went to Parra Wirra Recreation Park where this Emu (and a couple of mates) wandered through the picnic area. We also spotted this Shingleback, our first lizard of the summer.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRs20btFciNeGEgwn0dKHc1gvvkKPn7sKxchLkERRRBMWJCYhZh7jQQGWKEEgsBP_1Z_GgIzAskPZRlk1pvc6k7qCFS6U_MRkr1z-X62JOm0KGlzgYjtqFpOfWmb4q0UKode4QZkcZ1gLf/s320/04e.jpg)
The same day, I spotted this small mantid in the garden, I am not sure, but I think it may be a Brown Mantis. It was quite difficult to get close as it stayed between some netting and the fence. I love the shadow on the third photo.![](https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6uDDLNK7jljHmkppd0z31RPdCRD96OYpBW7_Y3obCrWSAejR9-_jMN45xGPfEJS59OvqDCTCHsr8LaFoiZrlpZIJBwaOzVZdYlbjvZK-fRXSHU9kY3qHYd6iWZUxdVINLuuIDmvg7rbhY/s320/06m.jpg)

Lastly, we took a walk this morning at Henley Beach where this White-faced Heron was very confiding.

Great captures. I really like the last Mantis shot with it's shadow.
ReplyDeleteThe little pink star flower grows all over our paddocks as well as our Mt.Lofty garden but it;s name escapes me at the moment.
I love the heron pic, he looks to be deep in thought. All the pictures were beautiful. Nature is indeed amazing. Thanks for sharing your treasures.
ReplyDeleteWonderful series of photos. I love the flowers, the colors is my favorite. The lizard is cool and the mantis. Great sightings.
ReplyDeleteCracking set of images Tony, as you I like the shadow of the Mantis.
